US President Trump has extended his congratulations to the German CDU/CSU following their election victory. Read the full article at RT.com.

“Much like the USA, the people of Germany got tired of the no common sense agenda, especially on energy and immigration, that has prevailed for so many years,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
Exit polls from public broadcaster ZDF indicated that the CDU/CSU led with 28.6% of the vote, while Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats recorded a historic low of just 16.5%, marking their worst performance since 1949. Friedrich Merz, the leader of the conservatives, is positioned to become the next chancellor, and the right-wing anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) achieved its highest-ever result, taking second place.
Trump described the elections as “a great day for Germany” and for the US, suggesting there are “more victories to follow.”
The formation of the future government coalition will hinge on which smaller parties manage to secure seats in the Bundestag. AfD co-leader Alice Weidel characterized the election results as “historic,” stating that AfD is “open to coalition negotiations... otherwise, no real policy change will be possible in Germany.”
Nevertheless, analysts express skepticism regarding the CDU/CSU forming a coalition with AfD, predicting that a partnership with the Social Democrats remains the most viable option for establishing a government. The two parties have shared governance four times since World War II, most recently under former Chancellor Angela Merkel. It remains unclear whether Scholz will have any role in the new government, as Merz has previously ruled out collaboration within the same cabinet.
In discussions with broadcasters ARD and ZDF following the release of exit poll results, Merz emphasized the importance of fostering unity in Europe to counter perceived interference from the US or Russia. “The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic and drastic and ultimately outrageous than the interventions we have seen from Moscow,” he remarked, referencing US billionaire Elon Musk's support for AfD during the election.
Musk has openly criticized Scholz, calling him a “fool,” and endorsed Weidel for chancellor during a live chat. Additionally, he made a surprise appearance at an AfD campaign event in Halle in late January, voicing his support for the party.
The Washington Post reported in April 2023, citing European intelligence data, that Moscow was attempting to unite far-left and far-right politicians in Germany who oppose providing aid to Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed these claims as “100% fake,” asserting, “We have never interfered before, and now we really don't have time for this.”
