Trump Claims Debate ‘was rigged’
Former US President Donald Trump has leveled criticism at ABC News for their handling of his recent debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, labeling the network's moderation as “dishonest” and suggesting he might only participate in a future debate if it is conducted by “a fair network.”

In a post-debate interview with Sean Hannity on Fox, Trump expressed his view that he was the clear winner of the debate. Responding to Hannity’s relay that Harris is interested in a second debate, Trump expressed skepticism, stating, “She wants it because she lost. You know what happens when you’re a prizefighter and you lose, you immediately want a new fight… maybe if it was on a fair network I would do that.”

The perception of who won the debate varies, with many believing Harris had the upper hand. Trump appeared to struggle under the combined pressure from Vice President Harris and moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis. CNN’s flash poll reflected this sentiment, showing that 63% of viewers believed Harris had outperformed Trump.

The next morning, on Fox News, Trump continued his critique, decrying the debate as “totally rigged” and denouncing ABC as the “most dishonest news organization.” He articulated frustration over the moderating, saying, “So many things I said were debunked, like totally debunked. But she could say anything she wanted. My stuff was right, but they would correct you.”

During the debate, moderators frequently interrupted and fact-checked Trump, including during a contentious exchange pertaining to Haitian migrants in Ohio. In contrast, Harris faced no such scrutiny when she mentioned Trump’s alleged ties to 'Project 2025,' a conservative manifesto he has disowned, or when she incorrectly quoted him regarding neo-Nazis.

Reflecting on the debate, Trump inferred to Fox that despite his grievances, “We had a great night,” and proclaimed, “We won the debate.”

Trump had initially proposed three debates, calling for various networks to host them, including Fox News, ABC, and NBC. However, Harris' campaign committed only to the ABC-hosted event. Trump considered pulling out at one point, accusing ABC of biased coverage against him.
