Trump Appoints RFK Jr. to Cabinet Role
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former Democrat, has been endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as his Secretary of Health and Human Services. In August, Kennedy committed to “make America healthy again.”

In a social media announcement on Thursday evening, Trump introduced Kennedy’s nomination, stating that the former Democrat would guarantee that “everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals [and] pollutants.”

Trump expressed his concerns over public health, criticizing the industrial food complex and pharmaceutical companies for their roles in spreading “deception, misinformation, and disinformation.” He emphasized that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be crucial in addressing the health crisis in the country. “HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming health crisis in this country,” he added. He also noted that Kennedy would focus on restoring agencies to prioritize “gold standard scientific research” to “Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

The New York Post reported a day earlier that some of Trump’s advisers were recommending Kennedy for an advisory role; however, the former Democrat remained insistent about wanting to lead HHS.

If confirmed, Kennedy would be in charge of significant agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, and National Institutes of Health, all of which he has openly criticized. He has vowed to implement extensive reforms if he takes charge.

Kennedy, known for his skepticism toward vaccines and advocacy for organic agriculture, has also promised to “get processed food out of school lunch immediately,” to advocate for the removal of fluoride from water supplies, and to limit the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides in agriculture.

Initially announcing his presidential campaign as an independent candidate last October, Kennedy withdrew his challenge to President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary and endorsed Trump in August. He cited Trump’s commitment to free speech, his intention to end the Ukraine conflict, and his determination to address what Kennedy describes as “the chronic disease epidemic” affecting American children.
