Trump alleges ‘big threat’ to his life from Iran
Former US president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has reported significant threats to his life originating from Iran. He made this assertion on Wednesday, following a meeting between his team and representatives from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Although details of the meeting remain undisclosed, the Trump campaign indicated that it revolved around "real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the US."

In a post on his Truth Social platform and X, Trump stated, “Big threats on my life by Iran.” He added, “The entire US military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that did not work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone.”

Trump emphasized the heightened security around him, noting, “I am now surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before,” and warned that “an attack on a former president is a death wish for the attacker.”

During a rally in Mint Hill, North Carolina, later that same day, he reiterated his position, asserting, “If I were the president, I would inform the threatening country, in this case, Iran, that if you do anything to harm this person, we are going to blow your largest cities and the country itself to smithereens.” He criticized the current administration, stating, “There would be no more threats. But right now, we do not have that leadership,” referring to President Joe Biden and Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump also mentioned that there have been two assassination attempts against him recently—one at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July and another at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida in mid-September. He remarked, “They may or may not involve… Iran. But I do not really know.”

Tehran previously vowed to avenge the killing of top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani, who died in a US drone strike in Baghdad in January 2020 while Trump was in office. Following Trump’s injury in July from an assassination attempt, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani denied any Iranian involvement, stating, “Iran is determined to pursue legal action against Trump for his direct role in the crime of assassinating Martyr General Qassem Soleimani.”
