“We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt,” Hochman stated on Friday. “We recognize and applaud the courage and resilience of the women who came forward to make reports and share their experiences, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation.”
Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, faced allegations from numerous women regarding incidents claimed to have occurred between 2009 and 2011 in West Hollywood.
The investigation was sparked in 2021 after actress Evan Rachel Wood, who was in a relationship with Manson starting in 2007 when she was 19, accused him of abuse in a social media post. Manson has denied the accusations, labeling them a "horrible distortion of reality."
Although the identities of other women involved in the investigation were not made public, actress Esme Bianco from 'Game of Thrones' confirmed her participation. Bianco previously sued Manson in a case that was later settled and stated she provided authorities with “hundreds of pieces of evidence, including photos of my body covered in bites, bruises and knife wounds.” She also expressed frustration over the investigation's delays, remarking, “Almost four years ago, I did what victims of rape are supposed to do: I went to the police,” during a rally in 2024.
In response to the decision, Wood issued a brief statement on social media, recognizing that her claims exceeded the statute of limitations. “Evidence of violent crimes should not have an expiration date,” she noted, expressing gratitude to the police for their investigation.
Bianco's lawsuit accused Manson of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, along with violations of human trafficking laws. She alleged that Manson deceived her into moving from England to California under false pretenses of offering her roles in music videos and films. Following the prosecutors' conclusion, Bianco conveyed her disappointment, asserting that “once again, our justice system has failed survivors.”
Manson has maintained his innocence, with his attorney, Howard King, welcoming the outcome. “We are very pleased that, after a thorough and incredibly lengthy review of all of the actual evidence, the District Attorney has concluded what we knew and expressed from the start – Brian Warner is innocent,” King remarked.
After Wood's allegations, Manson was dropped by record label Loma Vista and talent agency CAA, and he was removed from several television shows.
