Relations Between Harris and Biden Growing Increasingly 'Frosty' – WSJ
Relations between President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have reportedly become more strained following her recent electoral defeat, as indicated by a Wall Street Journal report. Sources connected to both the president and vice president suggest that their families' private interactions are notably tenser compared to earlier in the administration.

According to the WSJ, this deterioration is especially evident in the relationship between First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Harris. Jill Biden has had lingering concerns about Harris since the 2020 Democratic primary debates when Harris addressed Biden's historical stance on federal busing programs for school desegregation. This criticism resonated personally with Jill Biden and has fueled her ongoing discomfort with the vice president.

The report emphasizes that both the political and personal dynamics between the two families have intensified following Harris' defeat in the presidential election.

“The postelection rapport among the Bidens and Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, in private settings has at times been frosty,” the WSJ noted, referencing sources knowledgeable about their interactions.

President Biden is said to hold the belief that he would have been more likely to win the election had he remained a candidate. This perspective is supported by some advisers who suggest that Biden's experience and past success, particularly his 2020 victory over Donald Trump, would have made him a strong contender.

A separate report from the Washington Post last week states that Biden has privately conveyed regret regarding his choice to withdraw from the 2024 election. He recognizes some missteps in his leadership but feels he should have continued in the race despite the difficulties that led to his withdrawal, as reported by White House sources.

The White House has responded to these reports, with spokesman Andrew Bates insisting that there is no significant strain in the relationship between Biden and Harris. He emphasized that both leaders are dedicated to achieving results for American families and “finalizing the most groundbreaking record of any modern administration.”

Biden's choice to step back in July followed a televised debate with Trump that faced criticism and raised concerns about his age and cognitive abilities. He has openly acknowledged that his performance during the June 27 debate was lacking, admitting, “I screwed up” while struggling to convey his policies clearly. This decision ultimately allowed Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee, who was later defeated by Trump in the November election.
