This mangrove habitat plays an essential role in the coastal wetland ecosystem by blocking wind and waves, purifying seawater, and supporting biodiversity. During high tide, it is common to witness the striking sight of mangroves submerged in seawater, with only their canopies visible, earning them the nickname "forests on the sea."
Spanning approximately 6,000 mu (400 hectares), the mangrove forest on Jinniu Island is abundant in marine life, including fish, shrimp, and shellfish, which in turn attract a variety of rare bird species to the region.
