According to KCNA, the upgraded multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) has enhanced maneuverability and concentrated firing capabilities. The report highlighted that the system demonstrates advantages in various aspects, including the newly implemented guiding system, controllability, and destructive power.
The North Korean leader aims to increase the production of MLRS units for the military, as indicated by the news agency.
Photographs released by KCNA depict one of the rocket artillery units executing a barrage. Additional images present an aerial perspective of the target area, along with closer views of the impacts and subsequent explosions.
As Pyongyang enhances its military capabilities, it has voiced concerns regarding the continual US military exercises in the Korean Peninsula, which it perceives as potential preparations for an invasion. Currently, the US and South Korea are engaged in 11-day joint military exercises that are set to conclude on Thursday. These drills comprise computer-simulated war games and over 40 types of field exercises and live-fire drills.
The recent test of a 240mm multiple rocket launcher, capable of reaching targets in Seoul and surrounding regions, occurred shortly after North Korea tested a new range of suicide drones.
Tensions between North and South Korea are notably strained, with Pyongyang labeling South Korea its “principal enemy” and issuing threats of war and retaliation against any perceived aggression from the south.
Last week, the North Korean Foreign Ministry announced that Pyongyang intends to bolster its military strength to create a balance in the region, as the US continues to supply South Korea with substantial amounts of “war hardware and lethal equipment.” The statement emphasized North Korea’s commitment to enhancing its "strategic deterrence" to safeguard its national security, interests, and regional peace.
In the past year, North Korea has fortified its relationship with Russia. In June, the two nations agreed to increase cooperation across various sectors and pledge mutual defense against foreign threats. US and South Korean officials have accused North Korea of supporting Russia in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
Both Moscow and Pyongyang have dismissed these accusations as “baseless.” President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia aims to strengthen its ties with North Korea “whether anyone likes it or not.”
