During an appearance on Tucker Carlson’s online show, broadcast from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Election Day, Musk expressed his commitment to this goal. A dedicated supporter of Trump, Musk officially endorsed him following the first assassination attempt in July and has since become a prominent ally of the former president. Trump has assured Musk that he would establish a special “government efficiency” commission, referred to as the DOGE, with Musk at the helm should he win the election.
In his conversation with Carlson, Musk conveyed his desire to assist Trump in creating a streamlined government.
“I’d be happy to help improve government efficiency,” Musk said. “We’ve got a gigantic government bureaucracy, we’ve got overregulation, we’ve got agencies that have overlapping responsibilities… this translates into real costs to people, they’re hidden costs but they are very substantial.”
Musk has been financially supportive of Trump’s initiatives, reportedly donating at least $118 million to the Republican’s political action committee focused on voter outreach. At a Trump rally last month, he committed to helping reduce the annual U.S. budget by “at least $2 trillion” through a review of federal agencies he would oversee if Trump regains the presidency.
“Your tax money is being wasted and the Department of Government Efficiency is going to fix that,” Musk stated.
The tech billionaire has been vocal about the escalating U.S. debt, recently warning that the nation is on a path toward bankruptcy unless it curtails its spending.
