Moscow accuses US of attempting to 'cleanse' media space of 'inconvenient truth'
The United States has imposed new sanctions targeting Russian media, an action Ambassador Anatoly Antonov describes as an effort to obscure the "inconvenient truth." These sanctions are seen by the diplomat as further evidence of what he perceives as the US administration's "Russophobia."

On Thursday, US officials declared a new round of sanctions aimed specifically at Russian media outlets like RT. They accuse the media of engaging in government-sponsored activities that supposedly aim to skew public opinion in the United States ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

Included in these sanctions are accusations against two individuals, reportedly associated with RT, on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Additionally, the US has blacklisted ten individuals and two organizations, leading to the freezing of their properties and assets within the United States. New visa restrictions have also been introduced to target those alleged to be operating on behalf of the Russian government.

"The [US] administration has made another attack against Russia. Its Russophobic policy has been confirmed, and is unlikely to change in the future,” Antonov commented during a press briefing.

“In essence, [US] officials are giving additional impetus to the aggressive phase of the witch hunt against dissent," he elaborated.

Antonov criticized the actions as attempts by US Democrats to deflect blame for their own electoral failings onto Russia. He accused them of using falsehoods to undermine Russian media outlets, which he claims offer limited but truthful insights into American politics.

Their objective, Antonov argues, is to purify the informational space from truths that are inconvenient for them, thereby intensifying an atmosphere of Russophobia by attributing domestic shortcomings to external sources.

RT's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan responded to the sanctions by ridiculing the US for perpetuating fears over RT's influence, suggesting that the US lacks varied strategies beyond stoking fears about the media outlet.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, viewed these sanctions as indicative of a decline in democratic values within the US, condemning it as evolving into a "totalitarian neoliberal dictatorship."
