Lavrov Describes Brazil G20 Summit as “very positive”
During the Group of Twenty meeting in Rio de Janeiro, significant agreements were reached, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

On Tuesday, Lavrov informed reporters that the G20 summit, held in Brazil from November 18 to 19, was a “very positive” event, marking the achievement of some substantial agreements. He represented Russia at the summit in place of President Vladimir Putin.

At a press conference, he remarked that several “weighty agreements” emerged from the high-level discussions. He emphasized the attendees' support for establishing a new coordinating structure aimed at combating global hunger and poverty, with the initiative focused on achieving the complete eradication of hunger by 2030 as stipulated by the Sustainable Development Goals.

Lavrov stated that Russia has “joined the mechanism” and has already implemented various programs to assist developing nations and enhance global food security. He also noted that the G20 members were briefed on Russia's role as a “reliable and leading global supplier” of food and energy security.

Additionally, Lavrov introduced the Greater Eurasian Partnership initiative, which was proposed by President Vladimir Putin to facilitate connections between Europe and Asia while ensuring stability and security.

Regarding the G20 summit's final declaration, he mentioned that the West sought to center the discussions around “only Ukraine agenda,” but this approach “failed” as other nations insisted on addressing additional conflicts as well. He confirmed that Russia agreed to the G20's final declaration clause concerning Ukraine.

“There is also a paragraph on Ukraine, which we agreed with, because the main thing in it is a call for an honest and reasonable conversation about peace on realistic grounds,” Lavrov remarked.

The extensive 22-page G20 declaration also calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, suggests taxing the super-rich, and addresses subjects such as artificial intelligence and gender equality.
