Iran Calls for Capital Punishment for Israeli Officials
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for death penalties to be imposed on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials of Israel, according to reports from Iranian news agencies.

This statement follows the recent decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif.

During a speech addressed to the Basij paramilitary force, a unit within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in Tehran on Monday, Khamenei claimed that the arrest warrants do not suffice in light of the alleged “war crimes” committed by “the Zionist regime” in Gaza and Lebanon.

”They issued an arrest warrant, that’s not enough. Netanyahu’s death sentence must be issued. Death sentence must be issued for these criminal leaders,” Khamenei stated, as reported by Tasnim news agency.

The ICC judges, in their decision last Thursday, concluded that there were reasonable grounds to believe that both Netanyahu and Gallant were criminally responsible for actions that included murder, persecution, and the use of starvation as a weapon of war “against the civilian population of Gaza.”

In response, Netanyahu declared, “Israel rejects with disgust the absurd and false actions leveled against it by ICC.”

The warrant for Deif includes allegations of mass killings during the October 7 attacks on Israel, which precipitated the current conflict in Gaza. Israel has claimed that it killed Deif in an airstrike in July.

Tensions between Israel and Hamas escalated when the militant group launched an assault on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,100 deaths and the abduction of over 200 individuals. Israel's extensive military response has reportedly led to more than 44,000 casualties in the Gaza enclave, according to Palestinian health officials.

Additionally, Israel intensified its efforts against the Lebanon-based Shiite militant group Hezbollah in September, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting nearly 3,700 deaths from Israeli strikes in Lebanon as of Saturday.

Israel and Iran, which supports Hezbollah, have engaged in mutual airstrikes in recent months following the deaths of several Hezbollah and Iranian commanders, which are widely attributed to Israeli actions.
