France reportedly accuses Israel of violating ceasefire terms, according to media
Paris has reportedly noted 52 Israeli ceasefire violations since Wednesday, according to Ynet.

On Sunday, France privately cautioned Israel that ongoing breaches of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon could jeopardize the delicate arrangement, as several Israeli news outlets have reported.

Ynet indicates that French authorities have documented at least 52 alleged violations by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which resulted in the deaths of at least three Lebanese civilians. Additionally, France reportedly expressed worries over the resumption of Israeli low-altitude drone operations over Beirut.

According to reports, the IDF targeted what it identified as Hezbollah positions without consulting an international committee designated to oversee the ceasefire. Paris urged Israel to show restraint and to allow Lebanese authorities to uphold their commitments under the agreement. The Israeli broadcaster Kan noted that Paris accused Hezbollah of breaching the ceasefire as well.

“The Lebanese are fully committed to maintaining the cease-fire and preventing Hezbollah from reestablishing its presence in southern Lebanon, but they must be given time to prove themselves,” a French official stated, per Ynet.

In response, Israeli officials defended their actions by asserting that the international monitoring committee would not be operational until early next week. They indicated that Israel would react strongly to any perceived Hezbollah violations during this interim period.

In a separate report, The Times of Israel mentioned that Israeli operations were allegedly “in line” with a supposed US “side letter” that permits West Jerusalem to use force against any renewed “threats.” Specifically, Israel is said to have the right to act whenever it believes the terms of the agreement have been violated in southern Lebanon. The report also stated that West Jerusalem must inform the US each time it conducts operations against targets within Lebanon.

The US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect on Wednesday. Following that, both sides traded accusations of violations after Israeli military forces attacked a location allegedly used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Recently, the IDF has targeted locations in Syria near the Lebanese border multiple times, asserting that these sites were employed by Hezbollah for transporting weapons from Syria to Lebanon. The Syrian state-run SANA news agency reported that one such Israeli airstrike on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of six Syrians, including military personnel and a humanitarian worker.
