On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that science and technology should not be used to create an "iron curtain" but should serve as shared wealth benefiting everyone.

In response to a question from a CN reporter regarding China-US technology relations during the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, Wang remarked that the "high fences and small yards" approach—referring to the US strategy to limit China's access to essential technologies—will not hinder the spirit of innovation. He cautioned that decoupling and disruptions in the supply chain would ultimately lead to self-isolation.

Wang stated that "unjustified external suppression" against China in sectors like space science and chip manufacturing has persisted without interruption. Despite these challenges, he asserted that China's journey toward becoming a leader in science and technology continues to expand.

He proclaimed, "Where there is blockade, there is breakthrough; where there is suppression, there is innovation; where there is the fiercest storm, there is the platform launching China's science and technology skyward like the Chinese mythological hero Ne Zha soaring into the heavens."

According to the 2025 government work report, China achieved significant progress in 2024 across various fields, including integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology. The Chang'e-6 mission marked humanity's first successful sample collection from the moon's far side, and the Mengxiang ocean drilling vessel was delivered and put into service. Additionally, technology contract transactions grew by 11.2 percent.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that generations of Chinese citizens have consistently pursued innovation.

He also stressed that mutual respect is essential in state-to-state relations and serves as a crucial foundation for stable China-US bilateral ties. Wang warned that no nation should "fantasize" that it can suppress China while simultaneously fostering good relations with it. Such contradictory actions undermine mutual trust and jeopardize long-term stability, he concluded.
