On Tuesday, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) announced it had secured orders for 130 planes during the inaugural day of the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province.

The company also unveiled the rebranding of its ARJ21 regional jet, which will now be known as the C909, aligning it with COMAC's naming system for its other aircraft models, including the C919 and C929.

The C909, featuring a seating capacity of 78-97 and a flight range of 2,225-3,700 kilometers, is designed to support regional and secondary hub airport route networks while enhancing capacity for major hub airports. It offers impressive takeoff and landing capabilities suitable for short, narrow runways and is adaptable to a variety of environments, including high-altitude conditions and extreme temperatures. This makes it well-suited for operations in China's border regions, Southeast Asia, Africa, and other international markets.

As for the C919, it accommodates 158-192 passengers and has a range of 4,075-5,555 kilometers. According to the company, the aircraft received certification from Chinese civil aviation authorities in 2022, and since then, seven planes have been delivered to China Eastern Airlines, marking the commencement of its commercial operations in May 2023. COMAC believes that the C919 will contribute to advancing the high-end manufacturing sector in China.

In terms of recent orders, COMAC noted that Hainan Airlines placed a firm order for 60 C919 narrowbody and 40 C909 regional jets. Additionally, Colorful Guizhou Airlines has signed a purchase agreement for 30 C909 aircraft, comprising 20 firm and 10 provisional commitments.

Furthermore, Liu Yan, COMAC’s deputy director of marketing, indicated that Air China is aiming to be the first customer for the C929 widebody aircraft currently in development, which will feature 280 to 400 seats and a range of 12,000 kilometers.
