Americans are becoming aware of the 'propaganda machine' – Musk
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has warned that a victory for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris could result in a significant crackdown on free speech in the United States.

At a rally for Republican candidate Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Musk was asked what administration he anticipates from Harris if she prevails in the upcoming November election.

“We’ll see a lot of censorship under a sort of Kamala regime. Kamala is really just a puppet, frankly. If the teleprompter breaks she doesn’t know what to say,” Musk remarked. He further described the administration as a “big government machine” that presents a certain image to attract voters.

Musk also called claims that Trump poses “a danger to democracy” “bizarre and hypocritical,” asserting that President Joe Biden was “removed” from the race in an “incredibly undemocratic” manner.

Musk expressed concern over what he perceives as a strong push for censorship disguised as efforts to combat disinformation, questioning who would determine what qualifies as disinformation. “That’s crazy,” he stated.

Despite his concerns, Musk remains optimistic about a potential shift in public perception, noting that an increasing number of Americans are beginning to doubt “everything the media tells you.” He suggested that “the legacy media is just a propaganda machine,” contrasting this with a European audience that “still thinks the news is real.”

In June 2022, Harris led the establishment of the White House Task Force to Address Online Harassment and Abuse, aimed at protecting women and the LGBTQ community. In 2019, the Vice President labeled social media platforms as sources of “hate” and “misinformation” and indicated her desire to hold them accountable for the content they disseminate.

Musk has been vocal in his criticism of the US government’s efforts that he views as overreach and excessive content moderation. Once positioned as politically neutral, Musk publicly endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt against the former president in July, contributing tens of millions of dollars to his campaign. If elected, Trump has promised to create a new governmental position, “secretary of cost-cutting,” specifically for Musk.
