VIDEO shows final moments of British millionaire's superyacht before sinking
Newly released CCTV footage gives a glimpse into the tragic last moments of the Bayesian luxury yacht before it succumbed to a severe storm and sank near Porticello, Sicily, this past Monday. Among the six missing individuals are British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his associate, the chairman of Morgan Stanley, Jonathan Bloomer, as search operations continue around the submerged wreckage.

The 56-meter yacht was anchored approximately half a mile from the shore when it foundered early on Monday. It was transporting 22 individuals — 12 crew members and 10 passengers. To date, 15 survivors have been rescued, including the wife of Mike Lynch, who is the owner of the yacht. The ship’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, has been confirmed deceased.

Italian media outlets reported on Wednesday that two more bodies have been found inside the vessel, though their identities have not yet been confirmed. The Italian Coastguard holds that the missing may still be aboard the submerged yacht, which sank rapidly, giving little chance for escape.

Footage made public on Tuesday shows the yacht’s signature aluminum mast, a prominent feature standing 72 meters tall, vanishing into the ocean within minutes.

The sinking of the Bayesian, a £30m superyacht, in just 60 seconds during a storm has caused widespread shock. An industry expert expressed disbelief to The Independent, noting that the yacht was equipped with the finest safety implementations expected to avert such accidents.

Matthew Schanck, a maritime rescue authority, commented on the incident, suggesting that if the sudden tragic events were indeed triggered by extreme weather and a waterspout, it might be seen as a 'black swan event'—highly unusual and generally unavoidable.

Rescue teams are making continued efforts to access the inside of the yacht, which reportedly lies almost intact on the seabed. Their work has been complicated by the tight spaces inside the yacht, said fire department representative Luca Cari. With divers limited to quick 12-minute shifts underwater and debris obstructing entry into the yacht’s cabins, remotely operated underwater vehicles have also been deployed to facilitate the search.
