US plans to lift restriction on deep strikes into Russia, says Moscow
Moscow’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, has expressed skepticism regarding Washington's claims that Ukraine is restricted from using long-range weapons in attacks deep into Russian territory. He indicated that such assertions cannot be trusted.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has renewed his pleas to Western allies for permission to conduct long-range strikes on Russian soil, especially amid ongoing operations in the Kursk region.

The Pentagon confirmed last week that its policy remains consistent, reiterating that Ukraine is prohibited from employing US-supplied ATACMS missiles, which have a range of up to 300 kilometers (approximately 186 miles), for attacks deep within Russia.

During a press briefing on Friday, Antonov remarked that US officials “seem to be constantly teasing us by saying that today it is allegedly not allowed to use long-range systems to strike at Russian territory.” He added, “But in reality, they are essentially preparing the ground to simply remove all existing restrictions, at a certain point.”

He pointed out that based on past US support for Ukraine, including training pilots for F-16 jets, it is highly likely that Ukraine will utilize “US-made [long-range] weapons against us,” though he could not predict where such confrontations may occur.

According to Antonov, the Biden administration is becoming increasingly erratic. He stated, “There is no guarantee that the whole world will not change tomorrow when you and I wake up. How the Americans will behave in this situation is very hard to tell.”

The ambassador insisted that Russia must respond decisively by bolstering its military-industrial capabilities, emphasizing that “only our army and navy will protect our country.”

In a live broadcast on Russia’s Channel One on Thursday, Antonov dismissed US claims of ignorance regarding Ukrainian plans to target the Kursk region. He asserted, “I am firmly convinced that in Kiev they do nothing without the go-ahead from their masters… They wouldn’t have dared to move a finger… in our direction without consent from Washington.”

Regarding the situation of Ukrainian forces that have entered Russian territory, Antonov made it clear that he believed “no one has any doubts that they will be destroyed, not pushed back, but destroyed.”

Furthermore, Russia's Defense Ministry reported on Thursday that Ukraine has suffered over 4,700 troop losses and significant military equipment losses, including 68 tanks and 53 armored personnel carriers, since the onset of the incursion in Kursk on August 6.
