US Republican nominee Donald Trump has committed to serving as a “defender” of Jewish Americans, warning that Israel could face extinction if Democratic candidate Kamala Harris wins the upcoming November election.
During his address at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in Washington on Thursday, Trump voiced concerns about polling data indicating that Harris, the current vice president, holds a significant advantage among Jewish-American voters.
While he did not specify which poll he was referencing, the former president expressed disappointment that only 40% of Jewish voters in the US support him.
“That means you got 60% voting for somebody that hates Israel,” Trump remarked, referring to Harris, whom he labeled as a “bad Democrat.” He further asserted that the Democratic Party, as a whole, is “very bad” for Israel.
The Republican went on to declare that “any Jewish person that votes for [Harris] or the Democratic Party should have their head examined.”
In a notably controversial statement, he added: “if I don’t win this election,” then “the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss.”
“It’s only because of the Democrat hold or curse on you. You can’t let this happen,” Trump emphasized, warning that if he loses and Harris assumes the presidency, then “Israel, in my opinion, within a period of two to three years, will cease to exist. It’s going to be wiped out.”
Trump also expressed that he has not been “treated properly” by Jewish-American voters, recalling his previous accomplishments in US-Israel relations. “I gave them Golan Heights. I gave them the Abraham Accords. I recognized the capital of Israel and opened the embassy in Jerusalem. And, most importantly of all, I terminated the Iran nuclear deal.”
“I was the best friend Israel ever had,” the former president claimed, asserting that if elected in November, he will act as the “defender” and “protector” of Jewish Americans and will be “the best friend [they] have ever had in the White House.”
