Reuters Releases Compilation of US Inquiries Directed to EU Nations
Reports indicate that Washington has inquired about the willingness of European allies to deploy troops in post-war Ukraine.

According to Reuters, the US has reached out to its European partners to assess their readiness to provide further support to Ukraine, both in terms of aid and military deployments. This inquiry comes shortly after remarks by US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy on Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who emphasized that European officials would not be included in any negotiations between the US and Moscow.

The US distributed a document featuring six questions aimed at understanding which countries would continue their support for Kiev and what they would require from Washington, as reported by Reuters, which cited a copy of the document.

One of the questions reportedly asked, “What additional capabilities, equipment, and maintenance sustainment options is your Government prepared to provide to Ukraine to improve its negotiating hand and increase pressure on Russia?”

Additionally, the document probed, “If third Country military forces were to be deployed to Ukraine as part of a peace arrangement, what would you consider to be the necessary size of such a European-led force?” According to Reuters, the questions also sought to clarify specifics regarding the deployment’s location, duration, and operational details.

Other inquiries focused on which nations might participate and whether the queried country would be willing to contribute troops to Ukraine following a ceasefire. They were also asked what expectations they had for the US and its allies in preparation for a potential conflict with Russian forces.

Furthermore, the document requested information on the steps and resources needed from the US for the queried state to engage in these security arrangements, as noted by the agency.

Concerns have emerged among EU officials that Trump may seek to shift the financial burden of post-war reconstruction and security onto them, with the Financial Times reporting that an anonymous official stated, “Trump sees us as money.”

The US president has pressed both the UK and EU members within the NATO alliance to increase their defense spending and contributions to Ukraine, arguing that the financial support and investments between them and Washington have been disproportionate.

Trump has also called for a return on the aid extended to Ukraine thus far, seeking “the equivalent of $500 billion worth of rare earths” as repayment for the “more than $300 billion” he claims Washington has provided to Kiev since the conflict escalated in February 2022.
