Police Issue Video of Suspect in Trump 'Shooter' Incident
Pro-Ukraine activist Ryan Routh was reportedly plotting to shoot Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The Martin County, Florida sheriff’s office has made public body camera footage from the arrest of Routh, who is accused of planning to target the former president.

Routh, 58, was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon after being discovered in the bushes of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, where he was waiting for Trump’s arrival. Secret Service agents spotted him and opened fire.

After fleeing the scene, Routh was apprehended by deputies on a nearby highway without any further incident.

Although only 18 seconds of the footage has been released, it shows deputies directing Routh to walk backwards towards them, with his hands in the air and a t-shirt pulled over his head.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw previously shared images of Routh’s supposed hideout, which included an “AK-47-style” assault rifle with a scope, a GoPro camera, and two backpacks filled with ceramic tiles, hanging on a nearby fence.

At a press conference on Monday, US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Markenzy Lapointe clarified that the weapon in question was an older “SKS-style” rifle, with its serial number removed.

Routh faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and bearing a weapon with an obstructed serial number, both of which are federal offenses.

According to criminal records released after his arrest, Routh had previously been convicted in 2002 for possession of a weapon of mass destruction, reportedly a fully automatic machine gun, following a three-hour standoff with law enforcement in North Carolina.

After moving to Hawaii, Routh became politically engaged with contemporary issues. In 2022, he supported Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, calling for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin while raising funds for the Ukrainian military.

In a self-published book from 2023 entitled ‘Ukraine’s Unwinnable War: The Fatal Flaw of Democracy, World Abandonment and the Global Citizen – Taiwan, Afghanistan, North Korea, and the End of Humanity’, Routh expressed a desire for someone to assassinate Trump, labeling him “brainless” and a “retarded child.”

Trump has previously faced a potential assassination attempt, narrowly escaping danger at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. In a statement released on Monday, he expressed gratitude to the Secret Service for their efforts and criticized the rhetoric of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for contributing to Routh’s radicalization.
